Mirella López Picazo was born in 1986 in Ferez (Albacete). She studied telecommunications engineering at the UPV (2004-10) and has focused her career on R&D of new methods of medical diagnosis from biomedical images and signals.
In 2009, she developed a sleepiness detector, and was awarded a scholarship to study in Lund University, Sweden. There, she developed a new method to detect Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation as a final degree thesis, qualified with honors.
In 2010, she worked as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate between the University of Portsmouth and Karis Ltd., during which she carried out management and research tasks on the software part of an intelligent care system to help independent living for elderly and/or chronical patients.
In 2011, she received La Caixa scholarship to study a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering at the UB and UPC. At the same time, she worked as research technician in the IBEC, where she developed her master thesis in new techniques for multimodal analysis of respiratory, brain and heart activity to improve the diagnosis of Sleep Apnea – Hypopnea Syndrome, qualified with honors
Research at the university is really interesting, but she wanted something more. She wanted to focus her research from a practical point of view, so in 2015 she gets another scholarship to carry out the Industrial Doctorate in information and communication technologies between 3D-Shaper/Galgo Medical S.L. and the UPF, with mention of Cum Laude.
During her thesis she develop a new method based on medical imaging to improve the diagnosis of osteoporosis and risk of fracture in the lumbar vertebrae.
Currently, she works as senior R & D Scientist in 3D-Shaper Medical participating in different national and international projects. She has developed a phantomless calibration method for CT images, which is in which is in the process of being patented. She has published 8 refereed journal papers and around 30 conference abstracts since 2019.
