THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CONGRESS THAT INSPIRES VOCATIONS

SWC COLLECTS AND COMPARES DATA ON INITIATIVES THAT PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF STEM VOCATIONS AMONG GIRLS AND WOMEN AND MEASURES THEIR IMPACT

  • Since its birth in Barcelona, SWC has taken its mission to Madrid, Lisbon, Milan, Bogotá and Montreal, and this year it will land in Sao Paulo (Brazil), Bologna (Italy) and Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) consolidating itself as an international benchmark working for gender equality in the STEM sector.
  • In 2025, Madrid will host the congress in May and the global edition will take place in Barcelona, which will be in November

Barcelona, January 22, 2025 – The STEM Women Congress (SWC), the international reference platform in the promotion of female talent in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) sectors, is looking for STEM initiatives to analyze and contribute to the STEM Women Annual Report 2025 (SWAR 2025). This report compiles and analyses the evolution of the STEM sector on an annual basis, focusing on the impact of innovative projects and their contribution to gender equality. Last year 175 initiatives participated and this year the goal is to increase the number of participants in the SWAR. The data will be presented in Madrid on May 6 at the CaixaForum in Madrid.

What is SWAR 2025?

In Spain, women represent only about 34% of the workforce in the STEM sector. For this reason, there are already different initiatives and programs that work to get more girls closer to STEM and that there are more women in these sectors. “The STEM Women Congress (SWC) invites all initiatives whose objective is to improve the presence of girls and women in STEM to participate free of charge in our project. By joining in, they will be contributing to the creation of an exhaustive x-ray of the current panorama, allowing us to develop a predictive model that identifies existing gaps,” says Eva Díaz Claver, CEO of the STEM Women Congress that prepares the STEM Women Annual Report every year.

SWAR is key to defining the necessary actions to promote greater female participation in STEM, building a more diverse and inclusive future in our country since it allows an analysis of the initiatives that exist, locate them territorially, see at what stage of the training or professional trajectory they act, so that our country can know what will be the evolution of the potential female talent that will study and work in the STEM sectors.  This study makes it possible to analyse the gaps, join forces and jointly establish global objectives by creating and promoting new, much more effective collaborative actions.

What is the STEM Women Congress?

This congress, which was born in Barcelona 6 years ago, has already been consolidated nationally and internationally, already celebrating this 2025 editions in Madrid, Lisbon, Milan, Montreal, Toronto, Sao Paulo (Brazil) and in Medellín, consolidating itself as an international benchmark that works for gender equality in the STEM sector.

In addition to being the meeting where the SWAR of each country is presented annually, it hosts conferences and panels of STEM references, both men and women, with the aim of inspiring new generations and analyzing the challenges faced by the STEM community to get more girls to want to study STEM careers. In addition, the congress contributes to the visibility of STEM initiatives by facilitating and creating opportunities among all the agents of the STEM ecosystem, involving institutions, schools and universities, as well as organizations from the public and private spheres.

The STEM Women Congress has already announced the dates of some of its next editions: https://www.globalstemwomen.org/swc . In Spain, the congress will be held on May 6 in Madrid, in November in Barcelona.
