  • The STEM Women Congress will take place on May 6th in both online and in-person formats from CaixaForum Madrid, featuring major figures from the scientific, technological, and business fields committed to gender equality in the STEM sectors.

  • In addition to Madrid and Barcelona, the SWC is also held in Lisbon, Milan, and Montreal. On May 28th, it will land for the first time in Cartagena de Indias, and later in the fall, it will expand to Toronto, São Paulo, and Medellín. Chile, Colombia, Turkey, and the Netherlands will be the next countries to join, with dates yet to be confirmed.

SWC Madrid 25

CaixaForum Madrid will host the third edition of the STEM WOMEN CONGRESS (SWC) in the Spanish capital, the leading international event aimed at promoting and raising the visibility of female talent in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Once again, the event will feature a panel full of professionals and initiatives that stand out for their work in promoting and encouraging equal academic and professional opportunities for women in the STEM sector.

The day will kick off at 9:00 a.m. with a welcome speech by scientific communicator Pere Estupinyà, who will also serve as the host of the congress. Throughout the morning, there will be keynote speeches, panel discussions, and networking sessions featuring leaders from companies such as Schneider Electric, Kyndryl, Michael Page, Homeward Bound, Naturgy, CaixaBank Tech, GFT, Volkswagen Group España Distribución, Abertis, among many others.

Among the highlights, we can mention Mercedes Martín’s participation. She is a meteorologist, oceanographer, and climate change communicator, well-known for her role as the weather presenter on Antena 3 News. Martín will take part representing the international project Homeward Bound, an initiative aiming to create a global network of 10,000 women in STEM fields within fourteen years. The program seeks to elevate female talent in science and foster women’s leadership in tackling major global challenges, such as the climate emergency. Mercedes Martín will share insights about the scientific expeditions to the Antarctic Peninsula included in the initiative. The latest expedition departed from Ushuaia (Argentina) on January 28th with 116 women from 22 countries.

SWC ANNUAL REPORT

As part of the congress, we will present the Annual Report 2025, the study prepared by the organization that analyzes STEM initiatives in Spain and their impact. This report provides a detailed overview of existing initiatives, classifying them by segment (inspiration, career, and entrepreneurship) and data (age, region, type of activity, etc.), revealing the gaps that need to be addressed.

THE GLOBAL EXPANSION OF THE CONGRESS

This is the third year that SWC will take place in Madrid. The initiative, born in Barcelona —where the seventh edition will be held on November 19th— continues to grow and expand into new countries. On October 8th, the second edition will be held in Lisbon, and on October 15th, the second edition will also be celebrated in Milan. In Canada, the second edition will take place on September 25th in Montreal, and the first edition in Toronto will be on October 22nd.

For the first time, SWC will arrive in Colombia, with events on May 28th in Cartagena de Indias and on August 1st in Medellín. Brazil will also host its first edition on May 15th in São Paulo. Furthermore, three more countries —Turkey, Chile, and the Netherlands— will soon host their first editions, with dates to be confirmed.
